Andy Cochran served in the US Navy from 1986 to 1998. Following basic training at Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois continued on to Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton Connecticut. His first tour of Duty was being assigned to Pre-Commissioning Unit SSBN 734 USS Tennessee gaining his Submarine Warfare Dolphins (SS) designation. Upon Commissioning and missile testing transferred to deploy for WESTPAC on SSN 612 USS Guardfish receiving an Expeditionary Medal for Special Operations. Upon Decommissioning deployed on SSBN 617 USS Alexander Hamilton and took it into Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for Decommission. Transferred to Commander Submarine Group Seven in Yokosuka Japan as the Submarine Scheduler for Seventh Fleet and supported operation during Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Supported operation for Commander Task Force 157 operations. Upon completion of shore duty reported to SSBN 732 USS Alaska deploying for deterrent patrols. After tour of duty was completed transferred to SSBN USS Georgia as the Assistant Navigator. Upon completion of duty transferred to the Army from 1998 to 2001 support turning Soldiers into Sailors for the 8th Brigade Training Battalion at Fort Eustis as the Project Manager supporting and building the first Virtual Navigation Trainer of it kind.
