We are sad to announce that our comrade, Lawrence "Larry" Gilbert, passed away on 31 October 2017. We have received the following information from his family:

I’m sorry to let you know that my father, Lawrence Gilbert, passed away after a short illness. He was comfortable, and surrounded by people he loved.
On behalf of my family, I am writing to provide you with information about our plans to commemorate our father, Lawrence Gilbert. Please share this information with anyone whom you think may wish to receive it.
(1) There will be a SERVICE AT 10:00 AM ON FRIDAY 11/3/17 at Judea Reform Congregation, 1933 West Cornwallis Road, Durham, NC

(2) There will be a LUNCH & CELEBRATION AT 12:00 PM ON FRIDAY 11/3/17 at the Rizzo Center, 150 DuBose Home Lane, Chapel Hill, NC

Upon arriving at the Rizzo Center, turn right at the Gate House. Continue past the parking lot on the right and Loudermilk Hall on the left until you reach McLean Hall, also on the left. Follow the driveway down behind the building and park in the parking lot. The reception is in The Shaffer Kenan Lounge in McLean Hall. Take the elevator up to the 1st floor and follow the hall around to the left. HERE is a link to an online property map to help orient you to the facility.
If parking is not available in the back parking lot, additional parking will be available in the main lot. When driving out of The Rizzo Center, you will pass McLean Hall and Loudermilk Hall on your right. The main parking lot will be on the left side before you exit the property.
(3) In lieu of flowers, our family asks that donations be made to the Lawrence Gilbert Distinguished Lecture Fund in Biology at the University of North Carolina. Checks should be made payable to "Dept. Biology Gilbert Lectureship Fund Designation Code 105561” and should be mailed to "Department of Biology / Attention: Dr. Victoria Bautch / UNC Chapel Hill / 205 Coker Hall; CB# 3280 / Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3280.”
